Working on the development of novel gaseous detectors, Florian is a Fellow in the Gaseous Detector Development (GDD) group.

He studied physics at TU Vienna and worked on nano fabrication techniques and superconducting nanowires.

Florian first joined CERN as Summer Student and later as Doctoral Student with a focus on optical readout of MicroPattern Gaseous Detectors (MPGDs). His PhD thesis explored applications of scintillation light readout for GEM detectors in TPCs, beam monitoring applications and radiation imaging.

In the context of the EP R&D program, he is working on precise timing detectors based on the Picosec Micromegas concept including photocathode studies and scaling up to larger detection areas as well as exploring novel MPGD technologies. He is involved in the RD51 collaboration as working group convenor.
