Dr. Paulo Moreira was born in Porto, Portugal. He holds a degree in applied physics from the University of Porto - Portugal, and a Ph.D. degree in electronics engineering from the University of North Wales - U.K. He worked for INESC, Portugal, in the development of telecommunication systems and at the UCNW - U.K., in the development of fiber optics receivers for multi-gigabit/s optical communication systems. Since 1994, he has been with CERN, Geneva, Switzerland, where he has been involved in the development of integrated circuits for the high-energy physics experiments at CERN.

At present he is the project leader for the GBT and LpGBT projects. These projects target the development of radiation tolerant high data rate communication systems (5 and 10 Gb/s) for the future upgrades of the LHC experiments. One of the projects (GBT) is currently in the industrial production stage while the other (LpGBT) is currently in its development phase. Both projects are international collaborations between CERN and several Universities and Research Institutes.

During his professional career, several projects involved the co-supervision of PhD students and Dr. Moreira has also participated for several years as a lecturer in ASIC design courses organized by the “Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics” - Italy and the “Institut National de Physique Nucléaire et de physique des particules” – France.

He is a co-author of more than 80 technical papers and of a book chapter
