Elementary transistor test structures and basic digital building blocks such as ring oscillators need to be designed but also amplifiers and comparators, required to reduce the area contribution of the front end, and to increase the circuit speed for proper sensor characterization. Supporting IP blocks may include initially voltage references, DACs, drivers and later on voltage regulators, monitoring ADCs, and data transmission units with serializer, PLL and driver. Moreover, if the digital library or libraries provided by the foundry are not radiation tolerant new digital building blocks will have to be developed and characterized.
